SIN AND THE CITY.

Decadence of morality in the Nigerian society has reached such an alarming level that even a blind individual can see. Are we to say we have lost this generation to thevwhirl wind of westernization or are we just losing them? A generation who care less about the plight and tears of their elders but rather pursue there own selfish interest and desire. They engage in all sorts of anti-social and pernicious conduct towards the development of the nation. They consider our indigenous culture outdated and our traditions barbaric. Therefore they queue up to embrace westernization in its totality and abandoning our traditions and culture, thereby losing their identity. They have the westernization mentality dictate their societal conducts. They rely solely on the conducts of westernization to establish a domain for themselves in a land that was once an alien to westernization. Westernization has disappointed us and place the future of our youths on a dangling pendulum clock which is liable to fall at any time.
Some point accusing fingers at the parents, some at the media while some at the youths and their environment. Of course, I will not orate much about the accusing finger that is being pointed at the parents as we all know that some children are born out of wedlock, some are born into polygamous or a divorced family, some are born into abject poverty, some are born with a silver spoon and so on, whichever way any child is born, I strongly believe the parent has a strong and puissance influence over the total well being of the child. There is a saying that charity begins at home. Academically, socially, spiritually and others, it all begins with the way parents handle this at the elementary life of the child. Parents have a heavy-duty over the choices a child makes with his or her life as it all begins with the parents. But of course, some parents did their best, what about the media?
The media today majorly the entertainment industry have caused more harm than good. The society is in a state of alumnus and excursions and in a state of hullabaloo due to the advent and growth of the entertainment industry. The entertainment industry for example through music videos, movies and some publications have successfully polluted the minds of the youths and promoted indecest dressing, drinking alcohol and other dangerous intoxicants, smoking, jamboree spending, nudity at clubs and so on. Such youth model their lives in accordance to any of their favourite actor, actress, musician, model and the likea. They pattern their lives after their nature. They live trying to please the dressing sense, talk, walk of their role models. Some are into illegal business cos' there role model practise and celebrate it.
They have this nonchallant attitude towards life, academics and others. Some after becoming independent at a young stage, they become rude to their parents and some become truants. They misbehave in the society and dedicate their time to things that cannot secure their future. They live as though the earth is designed for eternity. They neglect godly advices and live an unworthy life as their role model. Some divorce, drink, practise illegal business(yahoo, drug trafficking), sleep around with opposite sex and so on and forgetting what the society has to say about their conducts. If we did talked about the media, what about the youths and their environment?
We are all complaining there is crime and sin in the city which is majorly perpetrated by the youths, but what about youths who are promoting the name of their family and Nation through a legal means. Shall we not talk of youths who live up to the standard that is expected of them by the society e.g @Toyinolatuja, @Johnobudu, @chriskweks etc. What about those who leave a good legacy for the society and the upcoming generation. Definitely a man's destiny can only be determined by himself. Man is the architect of his own fortune or misfortune and not the parent or media or the environment, they can only contribute or assist it. Some children behave like sheep at home and like wolves outside. The youths have made different decisions that have not but jeopardized the growth of the nation.
I believe the youths neef reorientation to include compassion, respect, tolenrace, self denial and adequate understanding. The media should correct its past flaws and thereby promote sanity, indigenous culture, morals and value in the society. Above all, it must be understoos that training the youths is a collective reaponsibilty of the members of the society just as one person gives birth to a child but thousand train him. If you train only your children, my untrained children whom are frienda and go to school, mosque, church or thesame environment can pollute and spoil your trained children. All hands must be on deck starting from the family to end the insurgence of sin in the city in other to produce a moral society that we can call a nation.
