We have killed him!

(we just killed an innocent 7-year old boy)
Today we destroy a destiny and waste a glory,
My tears carry the inscription of 'the black nation'
And my blood flows through her rivers,

Even though my mouths are sealed and my jaws have dropped,
Tears I believe have weakened my bowels and there is little my fingers can orchestrate,
Kindly allow my tears to flow non-stop and let it bring in the beasts of the field,
Let it usher in the farm workers and provide an entrance for the drenched market women.

I am a citizen of the dark continent,
I am an ambassador of a black nation,
I am a citizen whose mentality has been colonized,
A citizen whose freedom and integrity has been cart away.

Don't mind my long epistle,
Pardon my diction and forgive my figurative expressions,
I write not to show you the beauty of my ink,
I write not to display the prowess of my literal knowledge,
But I write to expose how poverty has fried our mentality,
I write to unveil the shame we call honour.

He stole and we killed him but he stole and we kept mute,
We have become slaves to our lust and a slap to the dark continent,
Our emotions have become dried up like the fig trees and our thinking faculty as shallow as the dust of the sea,
Our laughter is an emblem of dark sorrow and what we delight in is what others pity us for.

Are we to say our leaders are the one who caused this,
Or has recession buried our emotions, and destroyed the brotherly love we listen to every sunday,
Who are we to blame for our ignorance,
See how we've broadcasted our shame and celebrated our foolishness,
I can feel the tears of our ancestors and the pain of our fore-fathers,
This is definitely not the Nation they dreamt of.

We have killed him and we have bailed him,
We have burnt him and we have discharged him,
We are a shame to other nations,
We are a slap to the dark continent,
A public shame to creation.
