Adeyemi students' need exposure

With Emma Cullen

Thousands never pray to attend Adeyemi college of Education though, but one way or the other they just find themselves at Obasanjo auditorium receiving lectures. Adeyemi college of Education as believed is the gathering
of heads from majorly Ondo indigenes, Ife indigenes, Ekiti indigenes, Lagos, Ibadan and many more neighbouring towns and states. Students flock in and out the campus as it is believed that the school has a population of over 17,000 students, but that is not the issue presently, the issue is the simple fact that majority of the students we have at Arbico land need to be given another orientation on what tertiary institution life is all about ranging from dressing, composure, Entertainment versus academics and many more
1) DRESSING: A couple of years ago, an Arbican once said and I quote;
   "Adeyemi students dress like secondary school students"
When I heard this statement, it kindof sound harsh but having taken a quick survey in line with what this Arbican said, I found out that she is 100℅ correct. Students of Adeyemi dress to class as if they are going for a visit to the market. I think Arbicans need to be oriented again that they are in a recognized higher institution and thus they need to dress to taste. Even though, you are not a law student, that should not be a barrier not to put on a nice T-shirt with a well ironed trouser and a well polished shoe on a Monday morning. Ladies dress shabbily while guys dress crazily. This is not a fashion ground Arbicans, this is an institution. Dress to taste and let us change our mentality that we are college students and dress maturely, don't forget people relate with you first with the way you are dressed and not what you say. Take a visit to JABU.
2) COMPOSURE: I was taking a walk around the campus a couple of weeks ago when I saw three students eating publicly in front of Oduduwa hostel using disposable dish. Tearing meats and licking their fingers as if they have just been released from a remand home. This is disgusting and degrading. One way or the other, it does not give the school a good name. If you take a walk around mile 12 at the 3rd hour of the day, you will see how students walk laugh like advanced secondary school students publicly. Many yawn opening the whole of their mouth as if their teeth needs fresh air. Arbicans cannot maintain perfect silence when there lecturer is not around,

it has been installed in them, they cannot but make noise, gossip and form into clusters to tell stories. Upgrade your system, be composed. You don't have to travel to other schools to learn that, you watch it daily on TVs.
3) ENTERTAINMENT vs ACADEMICS: I wonder if this happen In other schools but one way or the other, it does not happen in all schools. If it's academics, don't expect Arbicans. Sometimes, I wonder if Adeyemi is a land of Entertainment. If it is not a place they are gonna dance, laugh, eat, show off some of there new and crazy dress, then don't expect them. Don't expect the number of audience you see at a hip hop concert in Adeyemi in a seminar even when they have to pay to come in for the concert and enter freely for the seminar. If it's academics, it should probably keep itself. Arbicans don't thirst for more of understanding in their various fields. Some guys must Sha be on that stage to perform some crazy dance and ladies to show off there back asset. Anything outside this, you are on a long run.
4) ORIENTATIONS and BACKGROUND: Freshmen use to undergo orientation before there first semester examination on campus, but I bet there are still OT that are yet to be introduced into the scheme. Should we say their background is what determines there carriage and mental view about how they should live their lives on campus. Most Arbicans are hardly presentable when they get into the labour market. There spoken English, dressing, composure and many more are nothing to write home about. Is this because of where they came from or what they have decided to do with their lives.

I strongly believe Arbicans need to be exposed. Many have never for once leave the confinement of there local homes only to find themselves in a college of education.

 Someone once said, "Arbicans are too local". One way or the other, I just believe Arbicans need to upgrade themselves, get exposed to what life outside Ondo really mean and how to integrate themselves into living a life of a true higher institution student. Views and ideas are welcome...
